Panama City is the country’s business and banking centre, and most of its offices and shopping streets are there; tourist areas on the coasts add hotels and small shops. Premises inside a building are usually owned under the same horizontal property regime as apartments, with a share of the common areas and a maintenance fee. Before buying, check the property’s permitted use (uso de suelo) with the municipality and the terms of any lease already in place. Foreign buyers can own commercial property in their own name or through a Panamanian company.
